Heaven Help Us! with the aid of The Sunday Investigator, traces the rags-to-riches story of Alfie and Goldie Goldberg, who from a windfall of just one-thousand pounds back in the 1940's, went on to amass a personal fortune of over eighty million. When Goldie, our leading character, was sadly left alone to manage the vast empire, which she and Alfie had built between them, she decided enough was enough and retired herself to the luxury ensconcement of the Vermillion Lawns, an establishment available only to those of a certain age and most certainly available only to those of certain means! There, she was to meet the other main characters of this exciting, dramatic story - Charley-Boy, Henry, Freddie, Polly, and Julie each of whom had the blessing of similar wealth. Millions, to be precise! Many, at the first hint of a disaster, would have turned and run. But not this little bunch! No! They faced it all and they stood tall. And, dear God! As this record shows, did they take the blows! submitted by - Peter Power

Picture, for a moment, Jonathan Payne, probably the last person in the world you would expect to be the lead character in anybody's novel, a faded old bookseller nearing the end of a wasted life. We meet him alone in his flat in a seaside town in the north of England just waiting on Death to knock at his front door. But life has something else in store for poor Jonathan. Instead of Death he gets to spend an infuriating two days with the personification of truth who opens Jonathan's eyes to not only what his life has become but what it might have been. He discovers what he's missed out on, what other people are really thinking and the true nature of the universe which, as you might imagine, is nothing like he would have ever expected it to be. By the end of the book, having learned far more about himself than he ever wanted to know, Jonathan discovers that it's usually never too late to start again. Only sometimes it is. submitted by - Jim Murdoch
Page after page of glittering description gives the reader a true taste of what Psappha's world was like in her lifetime. We watch her grow from a headstrong opinionated girl into a graceful, reflective woman, and to become one of the few great Greek poets of the ancient world. A must read for those who love poetry, and for those who do not. Ms Bell serves her readers, an engaging Psappha along with a vast assortment of friends, a most tantalizing and fulfilling meal. submitted by - Peggy Ullman Bell
A novel of women @ Gettysburg, FIXIN' THINGS carries its fair share of characters, but we're never to the point where we begin to wish for a map. Sam, the black man taken in by Megan's mother when they were young, the eccentric Aunts who live in the rented house...all wonderfully engaging & delightful to meet. Like many novels written about this period, the battle begins to surround the family lands, but few have the colorful cast of characters given in this compelling community. Although this is a novel, Bell's layers of harsh life, hate, bigotry and newfound love come incredibly close to a work of non-fiction. FIXIN' THINGS gives readers a shocking yet enjoyable glimpse into a Gettysburg life of the period. submitted by - Peggy Ullman Bell
