GETTING YOUR BOOK PUBLISHED
First, what we do, and what we don't do...
Published.com is a Directory of independent writers and artists, and not a book publisher. Our main function is to help promote your creative work, free of charge. But we can also help guide you through the process of publishing your own work. Just read the instructions on this page and use the resource links listed below.
What is Print On Demand (POD) Book Publishing?
POD publishing removes most of the risk to traditional self-publishing, since there is no need to have an initial print run of hundreds or thousands of copies. As customers order copies, they are printed and shipped, either to you or to a book retailer, depending on who received the order. This method is highly recommended for first-time independent publishers and authors who want to market their work in print or e-book form.
How is Print On Demand Publishing Different From Traditional Book Publishing?
In traditional publishing, a publisher covers the expenses associated with producing your book, such as cover design, layout, editing, etc. You’ll get a royalty of about 10% of the retail price of the book and that’s about it. Gone are the days when publishers pay unknown authors advances or even invest anything to promote your book. You’ll be excepted to promote your book on your own.
So, if you’re willing to spend a bit of money up front on cover design, layout, editing, etc., you’ll control every aspect of your book and get 100% of royalties. Either way, you’ll have to promote the book on your own. So, why not invest in yourself?
How to Choose the Right Self-Publishing (Print On Demand Publishing) Company?
The experts in the self-publishing industry agree that that The Fine Print of Self-Publishing, by Mark Levine, is “the” guide to choosing the right self-publishing company.
Levine’s book ranks and analyzes the contracts and services of the top 48 self-publishing companies, making impossible for you to choose a bad publisher.
The CEO’s of eight major self-publishing companies have lauded The Fine Print. You can see their comments at www.book-publishers-compared.com.
If you’re thinking of self-publishing, do the smart thing and read The Fine Print first. The rest will be easy.
